COUNSELLING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY
Terms & Conditions
These Terms & Conditions set out the framework for counselling and psychotherapy services provided by Ganna Taran, psychologist and Gestalt therapist.
By booking and attending a session, you confirm that you have read and understood these terms and agree to them.
1. Our work together
Counselling and psychotherapy are collaborative processes. The aim of our work is to create a safe and confidential space where you can explore your experiences, emotions, relationships and difficulties at your own pace.
I do not guarantee a particular therapeutic outcome. The effectiveness of therapy depends on many factors, including your individual circumstances, participation and engagement in the process.
My services are psychological and therapeutic services and do not constitute medical or psychiatric treatment. Where appropriate, I may recommend that you seek additional support from your GP, psychiatrist or another healthcare professional.
2. Sessions
Individual counselling and psychotherapy sessions last 50 minutes.
Sessions may take place:
-
online, via Zoom or another agreed platform;
-
in person, at an agreed location.
The frequency of sessions is discussed individually and may be weekly or otherwise agreed between us.
At the beginning of our work, we usually agree on an initial period of therapy and review our work together as we progress.
3. Couples Therapy
Couples sessions are normally attended by both partners and last 50 minutes.
The frequency and format of sessions are agreed individually.
Because couples therapy involves two people, confidentiality and communication within the therapeutic relationship are discussed at the beginning of the work.
4. Working with Children and Parents
I provide psychological support for children and adolescents, as well as consultations for parents.
Depending on the child’s age and needs, the work may include:
-
individual sessions with the child;
-
consultations with parents;
-
joint sessions with the child and parent(s).
Parental or legal guardian consent is required for work with a minor.
I maintain confidentiality in my work with children while also taking appropriate steps when there are serious concerns about a child’s safety or wellbeing.
5. Fees and Payment
The current fee is communicated at the time of booking and/or published on the website.
Payment is made in advance of each session, unless another arrangement has been agreed.
For ongoing clients, any change in the agreed fee will be discussed in advance.
6. Cancellation and Rescheduling
You may cancel or reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours before the scheduled session.
Appointments cancelled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours’ notice are charged in full.
If you arrive late, the session will normally still finish at the originally agreed time.
If I need to cancel or reschedule a session with less than 24 hours’ notice, I will offer you a replacement appointment.
7. Confidentiality
Confidentiality is an essential part of psychotherapy.
Information shared during our work will remain confidential, except where disclosure is required or permitted by law, or where there is a serious and immediate concern about the safety of you or another person.
If confidentiality needs to be broken, I will normally discuss this with you wherever it is safe and appropriate to do so.
For more information about how personal data is collected, stored and processed, please refer to the relevant Privacy Policy.
8. Online Sessions
For online sessions, please make sure that you have:
-
a stable internet connection;
-
a private and quiet space;
-
headphones where possible;
-
your camera switched on, unless we have agreed otherwise.
Please avoid attending a therapy session while driving, in public places, or in situations where privacy cannot be maintained.
9. In-Person Sessions
For in-person sessions, we will agree the location and practical arrangements in advance.
The same principles of confidentiality, professional boundaries and cancellation apply to in-person sessions as to online sessions.
10. Professional Boundaries
Maintaining clear professional boundaries is an important part of safe therapeutic work.
Our communication outside sessions should be limited to practical matters such as scheduling and payment.
If we meet unexpectedly outside the therapeutic setting, I will respect your privacy and will not initiate contact unless you choose to acknowledge me.
11. Crisis and Emergency Situations
Psychotherapy sessions are not an emergency or crisis service.
If you are experiencing an immediate risk to your life or the life of another person, please contact emergency services or an appropriate crisis service rather than waiting for your next appointment.
If significant safety concerns arise during therapy, I may need to involve appropriate emergency or healthcare services and/or share relevant information to protect life and safety.
12. Ending Therapy
Therapy may be ended by either the client or the therapist.
Whenever possible, I encourage clients to discuss the ending in advance and to have a closing session. This gives us an opportunity to reflect on the work, discuss progress and consider any further support that may be helpful.
13. Changes to These Terms
These Terms & Conditions may be updated from time to time. The current version will be available on this website.
Any changes affecting ongoing therapy will be communicated to existing clients in advance where appropriate.
14. Applicable Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of Ireland.
Any disputes will be handled in accordance with applicable Irish law.
